In the fall of 1998, we traveled to Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. We enjoyed it so much in 1993 that we returned 1998 for three weeks. The first trip was in May so the seasons were quite different, but both trips were wonderful and the scenery fantastic. I've combined the photos so you can get an idea of how some of these places appear at different times of the year. We visited some additional places this time so I've added those to the photo album.

We stayed in the Gasthof Zum Baren in room #23. It's the one on
the top floor with surrounding windows - WOW!
Look for links below for Meersburg.

While we were in Switzerland, we stayed in a Best Western hotel called the Derby in Grindelwald, room #418, with a spectacular view of the Eiger. There are many Best Western Hotels which you can book from the U.S. using an 800 number. Please see below for a link.

We stayed one night in the "oldtown" part of Feldkirch, Austria. The
Alpenrose Hotel is wonderful. We stayed in room #31 which is a suite on
the top floor. The hotel is full of antiques and each room is different.
Look below for a link to two antique spinning wheels at the Alpenrose.
We wish we had stayed longer! It is also a Best Western Hotel.
(I'm really not advertising Best Western, but the two hotels we stayed
in were really nice.)

| Gastof Eder in Maria Alm, Austria |
|
|
|
This was our second visit to Maria Alm. It's a beautiful quiet village
in the Tyrolean Alps. We stayed at the Gastof Eder in our favorite room
#12E. We love it, of course. English is spoken here, more or less, but
there are few English speaking tourists. You won't find any English channels
on the TV, but it's always fun to watch American movies in German.
There is something to do all year round, including skiing.
There is a link below for Maria Alm.
